We are firm and commited believers in only using natural organic tomato feeds, in our opinion one of the finest natural tomato foods is liquid comfrey.
Comfrey was extensively researched by Lawrence Hills who developed the "Bocking 14" hybrid strain.
COMFREY - BOCKING 14
Liquid tomato food made from comfrey has higher NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium) levels than Farmyard manure. Take a look at the table below to see the relative value comparison between Comfrey and Farmyard manure.

Tomatoes are lovers of high levels of potassium, as one can see from the table, organic comfrey has those much needed levels to enable the growth of highly nutritious tomato crops. We supply root cuttings of Comfrey (Bocking 14) in our Shop in packs of 5 cuttings for £7.49 or 10 for £11.49 with NO EXTRA charge for postage and packing. We suggest that you choose an area within your garden as a "Comfrey Patch" to grow your own wonderful fertiliser to feed your tomatoes with. Once established comfrey can be cut back and the leaves used to make the liquid feed several times per year. This will give you ample amounts of organic comfrey fertiliser for all your needs. Comfrey is also a great feed for courgettes and potatoes and many other vegetables. All our root cuttings come with a full instruction leaflet for establishing your comfrey patch.
Making Liquid Comfrey Tomato Food
Once the comfrey plant has established it can be cut back to within a few inches from the ground up to 5 times per year as comfrey grows very vigorously. Once the leaves are harvested, simply place them in a bucket with a lid and weight them dowm with a couple of bricks. Place the lid on and leave the leaves to rot down, afterwards you will be left with a thick black liquid which can be watered down 15:1 to produce your own organic liquid feed. The benefit is naturally a long term one that will give you a constant supply of free plant food. Please visit the Shop to order your root cuttings. Please note that cuttings are normally sent out from April to September so if you order out of that period we will dispatch them to you as soon as they become availble. We suggest booking them now as we only have limited quantities and make them available on a first come first serve basis each year. If you see "sold out" in the shop you will know that we have reached our maximum for the season.
